My Creative Practice
Watercolours, drawings, and handmade quilts
Peter’s creative practice encompasses a myriad of expressions, ranging from spontaneous drawings and watercolours to thought-provoking paintings and sculptures, as well as meticulously crafted handmade quilts. His art is shaped by his hybrid identity as a queer biracial man and inspired by themes of Eastern spirituality, philosophy, space, and eroticism.
Watercolours
Peter paints things out of his subconscious and brings them to life, looks at them, and makes friends with them. Influenced by queer theory and Jungian psychology, his painting practice balances conceptual seduction with sensual explicitness.
Pencil Drawings
Peter draws nearly every day as part of his meditation practice and explores themes of sex, rebirth, and compulsive behaviour within his work. Everything he creates starts as a drawing and remains a drawing to him regardless of its manifestation.
Handmade Quilts
Peter’s meticulously crafted handmade quilts often serve as an extension of the themes found in his watercolours and pencil drawings. Each quilt is a labour of love, intricately pieced together with inherited textiles and materials. Through the medium of quilting, Peter continues his exploration of subconscious realms and conceptual themes, weaving together narratives of identity, spirituality, and sensuality.
